'89 GTA value

I would have posted this in a general non-tech forum, but there doesn't seem to be one. so......

I'm want to get some input on the approximate value of an '89 GTA, 350 w/
auto.
The car is in average to slightly rough shape, 150K miles. Its grey with
T-tops, which leak when it rains. The rear wing is missing, it was stolen
some time ago. Paint is in fairly good shape, looks nice when cleaned up.
Interior is, for the most part, straight. Some minor but no major rips or
tears, just your normal fading and expected stains and spots. The one major
issue is the head liner, its in bad shape and needs to be redone. Of
course, just like every other 3rd gen, the car rattles like crazy over bumps
and rough roads. A/C doesn't work, but every thing else seems to be ok.
Now for the bad part: it has a rod knock. Its not horrendous just yet,
but you can certainly hear it. You could still drive it, but it sure won't
last long. So, the engine needs to be rebuilt/replaced.
Any ideas on how much this car is worth? A friend of mine has it and he has
no means to replace the motor. I, on the other hand, would like to take on
the challenge, but only if I could get the car CHEAP! He'd give me a fair
price, but I would like to see what the market might bring for a car like
this.
Anyone have a line on a functional L98 shortblock?
Funny thing is I was the one driving the car when the motor decided to visit
the dark side. I guess thats gonna happen when you go autocrossing with
only one quart of oil in the crankcase (NOT my fault!). Before this
incident we took the Turd to the strip and ran a 15.2 @90mph in the1/4
mile with a sad 2.4 60' time. With a good driver, the car could have gone
into the high 14's!

Not much. A good GTA that vintage would go for around 4-5k (around here anyway). With a bad engine, missing spoiler, worn interior, no AC, leaky tops, and who knows what other little minor things (shocks, tranny, rear, brakes, etc) its probably not worth half that much. Not unless you want to pay that much for it. Cars in need of repair just dont sell for very much, especially when there are things to be done in all aspects, and not just an engine or something like that.
