On my 92 Camaro V6 with 110K miles, the engine has started to totally loose power, as if it is running out of fuel. I just changed the fuel filter & it seemed fine for about 5 minutes, then it would barely run over 3000 rpm in neutral. When it is in this trouble mode, the car will barely go over 20 mph. Sometimes restarting, the car is fine, perfect. Next start up, barely runs & even at wide open throttle. Seems like a no fuel problem. Checked for codes, NO CODES. I'm thinking fuel pump or electrical wiring. Don't bad fuel pump relays usually set a code? Don't fuel pressure regulators usually fail for high fuel pressure? Therefore the question, what is most likely..... fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump relay, or fuel pump. I realize I need to troubleshoot this, but I'm still interested in what everyone's experience has been relative to fuel system failures around 110K miles.

You really do need to troubleshoot more. Test and see what kind of pressure you're getting at the fuel rail, go pound on your catalytic converter with a mallet and see if you hear a rattling sound.

A clogged CAT ??? I was thinking that was an urban legend. A number of you are so adamant about this, this must be a known failure mode to some of you. I'll put it on my list of things to check. Meanwhile, keep those cards & letters coming.

I know when my GFs Blazer was having trouble keeping the rpms going when coming to a stop when the cat was clogged. Checked fuel pressure tonight...38psi during idle... a tick below 40psi min, but this may be gauge accurracy. Restricting fuel return puts pressure around 80 psi. Engine shut off, fuel pressure holds at 42 psi. Fuel pressure is still OK as engine goes into its die out mode. I put a vaccum gauge on the engine & noticed that vaccum increases as idle speed increases, until it starts to go into the die out mode. Then manifold vaccum starts dropping while the throttle is at a fixed open position. Isn't this a indication of a restricted exhaust?? Banging on the CAT seemed inconclusive.
