Going to the junkyard
Hey, I am going to the yard pretty soon, and i have a few questions.
First off, my car is burning/leaking oil somewhere, I am going to make sure its not a leak before i blow off this 305 for a 350.
Also I am in the hunt for a 350, what kind of cars should i look in, what should i get, I also want to go carb, my current setup is an 82 z28 CFI.
One other thing, i know ill need a new fuel pump, what kind of car can i get a fuel pump for this carb setup i am going with, and will it be sufficient?
I have about 450-500$, i really want a 5 speed transmission, but if i could get a 350 in her, and make some decent power, i could hold the 5 speed off a little longer.
Any engine in this yard is 125$
Any transmission is 50$
Last time i was there, they had 8 3rd gen's, and i dunno how many 1st/2nd gens. This yard does not have new cars really, thats why the prices are so low.
Thanks for help, sorry for length.

i tihnk any 2nd gen v8 would be a 350, and a boat anchor. i ithnk you'd be ahead looking for a newer engine, 305 or 350. trucks would be a good place to look for a 350, but 305s also were in trucks.

Another consideration before the boneyard is going around to some car shows. You will meet a lot of people doing what you are and many times you will come upon a pot of gold from someone looking for fast cash. Just be careful, whether it's the boneyard or private try to know what you are getting before you part with the cash.
