where to set timing with light???

where to set timing with light???

ok gusy i have a timing light and i droped my dist. in 8degrees be4 tdc, now when i use my timing light i put it at about 8 degrees on the crank. now my question is wut is a 350's timing sopposed to be aroudn to make it run right? is there a set number or do u just turn the dist till it feels right?? this always kinda confused me so if u could help i'd appriciate it. thanks guys

Stock the cars come at 6 degrees btdc. I was taught to advance until you get audible pinging and then back off a few degrees. As for what it runs best at, that's just a matter of testing different settings.
