I need some help
Ok i have an 89 tpi 305 trans am. it broke down and i tried to start it and it wouldent. i sprayed carb cleaner into it and it started. i thought it was the fuel pump so i replaced it. after i replaced it i tried to start it and it still wouldent start. it still fires on carb cleaner.i have fuel pressure and i hear the pump cycle when i turn the key. also the inertia switch is down. what else could it be????? please any suggestions will help.
i also changed the ECM and still no luck.

If you hear the pump cycle and it starts on starting fluid then the fuel injectors are not firing. Check your fuse box and see if any fuses are blown. I believe the only way the engine knows to fire the injectors is by way of the pickup coil sensing that the engine is turning a certain speed and relaying that to the ignition module - one of these may cause your problem. What do the spark plugs look like?
I dont know what the fuel pressure is I dont have a guage. but when I press the fuel rail pressure valve fuel sprays out hard. I have check the maf sensor and disconnected it ( so it will go into default) but still no fire..

You may want to check the INJ fuses (both of them) and the injector wiring harness. It sounds like you have some fuel pressure at least, but a pressure reading would be best for diagnosis.
After replacing the fuel pump, you should appreciate the value of complete diagnosis before the first wrench is turned. I'm not trying to rub it in, and you may well have had a fuel pump problem, but obviously there are other issues involved. If you can't borrow a fuel pressure gauge, try getting a refrigeration manifold. The low side gauge works great for fuel pressure testing. Just remember to clean out and dry the hoses before returning the set to the owner.
