worth the money?

well, I'm getting pretty tired of driving my big green minivan everywhere...so I've decided I need a new car. Problem is, my budget is limited. Found something that is in my pricerange though, a 83 Z28 for sale. Looks to be in pretty good condition, some paint wearing off on the front corners, scratch or two on the back, but no floorboard rust, nothing major I can see. I talked to the owner for a little bit, just to get the basics, 305 4bbl, 147,000 miles (this gonna be a problem?), no accidents, owned for 5 years, and had some new parts (radiator, fuel pump, all belts). All for $1000. This sound OK, or should I wait for something a little better when I have slightly more cash? Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this, just didn't really see anyplace for "general". Thanks for any suggestions, just don't want to spend all my cash now and something that isn't going to be worth it.

It would really be hard without us looking at it, but if it runs good like you say it sounds like a good deal.

Well, depends what you want. Personally, I would rough it out in the minivan longer, to get a nicer car. If you're into speed that is?

Well the typical rule of thumb is from 1982-1992 the older the F-body the slower it is. The 83 Z28 is no where near as fast as the 1989 Z28. Also you get some more standard equipment as the years went buy. Personally I would get something in the 1985-90 range. It will cost more but I believe that it is worth it. 1991-1992 are still kind of expensive. And I don't think they are worth it unless you just get a smoking deal on one. Theres my $.02.
