What does this go to???

Can anyone tell me what this tube is for? The one in the center of the pic. I don't think it's important because my car runs fine, can I take it out or should I leave it in?

Ummm, yeah... you get cold in the winter. And if it's really cold out, your breath turns to frost on the inside of the windshield.
