Gears and POSI

Hey i have an 83Z with 3.23s and open rear. I have sitting in my garage a posi unit for 28 spline axles on a 3 series carrier and 3.73s for that carrier. I cant put that into my 83 right, id have to change to 28 spline axles. Cuz i believe 3rd gen axles are 26 spline...

Please help

starting in 89 gm began to replace the 26 spline with 28 spline axles, so you can buy new or get some used from a 90 or later, 89s you need to count the splines.
