When torque arm goes up...

I disconnected my torque arm and forgot to hook it up. I drove the car a little and...

When i stepped on the gas in gear the torque arm slammed the underside of the car.
When i stepped on the gas in REVERSE the torque arm banged the ground.

What the heck does this thing do when its hooked up? it apears to move the rear end around or somthing.

It keeps the rear end housing from rotating.

think about what you just said. the torque arm keeps the rearend FROM moving around when it is bolted up properly.

It's the same principle behind traction bars.
