Non-thirdgen: key stuck in park

I have a 89 accord and a problem with it also. The car is a automatic, and the key is getting increasingly hard to pull out of the ignition when i want to leave. I have a feeling that the linkage needs to be adjusted. Does anybody have any ideas or websites that could help me?

You've got an Accord, and you're worried about taking the key out of the ignition when you park it?

BWAAAAHHH! HAAA, HA!

Sorry, dude. I just had to....couldn't resist.

Many automatics have a shift interlock solenoid or cable. Many cars also have a release lever to allow the lock cylinder to be rotated all the way to the locked/remove position. Is the cylinder rotating back all the way? Does the key insert without excessive effort?

If it's just the key getting hung in the cylinder, you should try to inject a little powedered graphite into the lock cylinder, then work the key in and out sever times to distribute it. Liquid lock lubricants are les desireable than graphite, since they tend to gum from cold and dust.

Most graphite is available in small vials with a nozzle for "puffing" small amounts wherever you direct it. Even at that, place an old towel or newspaper on your lap and under the steering column before you apply the graphite. Graphite is hard to clean off textiles like clothing and carpeting, and it WILL get out of the lock cylinder somehow. It is also the best lock lubricant.
