Need recoms for 395 SBC buildup.
I already have purchased a 4 bolt block for my project.
I'm interested in biulding a 395 as opposed to a 383.
What would be a good rotating assembly for this project?
Crank? Rods? Pistons?
What should I be very careful about or aware of?
Any comments would be appreciated.
TIA

from what i hear unless you plan on blowing it or puttin a turbo on it, 396 sbc's aren't worth the extra cost. they cost more than a 383 and with the same parts (compression, heads, cam, induction) you gain almost zilch in HP and TQ. but just what i heard so i dunno for sure. i'd go for a stout 383.

I assume you're aware of this already but maybe not. GMHTP (the magizine) has a fuel injected 396 in there magnum tpi project car ('87 firebird I think) right now. Unfourtunatly they are having some trouble with it, but maybe you can still get some ideas from them. Do a search for 'magnum tpi' and you should find a buch of posts.

I've been following the Magnum TPI project car in GMHTP.
It seems like their main problem now is getting enough air into the engine.

why would there be that much airflow difference with a 383?
Piston selection is less. Rod ratio is more compromised. Not to mention additional clearancing required.
Torque increase is minimal. Go with a 400 or a 383.
