388 stroker??
388 stroker??
okay, this is for a future project, if it will be worth it. one of my dad's good friends gave him a 350 4-bolt main bored over .060. it is a non-roller block, can a shop modify to turn it into a roller set up, and clearance it and everything needed to be done and put a 3.75" crank in it? oh would it be cheaper to find a roller block and have the machine work done on it? i am looking to do this project over the next couple years, as money allows.

No modification to the block is necessary to put a roller system in it. You can't put a factory one in it at all. The system that all the rest of us had been using for all those decades we have been building roller motors before the factory finally got hipped up to it, and then sodomized the whole idea, will work fine, just like it always has.
The shop can of course clearance it. It would be real smart to get the actual parts you're going to use first, since they come in all different sizes and require various amounts of clearance work in various places; and I strongly recommend staying away from the cheap chinesium stroker kits such as Scat, because you will run up a bigger bill in dealing with all of the issues it creates than you save compared to using quality parts. I'd recommend Eagle.

that is some good advice, but i think i am really dumb. i always thought that machine work had to be done for a roller set up. so i can put a roller cam in my engine now when i do the cam swap this spring.
what about lunati parts for the stroker engine??

No machine work. I'm driving around just such a thing today, with no machine work whatsoever. As far as the block is concerned, the "retrofit" roller system is a direct drop-in. That's what makes it so hard to understand why the factory put their summer engineering intern's sophomore project into production.
Lunati parts would be good too. Avoid buying the cheepest thing you can find that says it will work; if you do that, you'll end up with ..... the cheeeepest thing you can find, with all other considerations left out.

whatever pistons you decide to get may not fit exactly in conjunction with the bore it already has. of course you would order .060 oversized pistons, but they still may not be exactly right which could cause problems in the long run. chances are it wouldnt be an issue, but it is a possibility. just thought id warn you.

agreed
i agree with rb.... i bought a kit with scat crank and rods..... i got a small base circle cam and they still hit on 2,5,and 6...... nothing a little grinding wouldn'r fix but still......
i think scat makes a good crank but foget their rods..... take it from me, i had to learn the hard way that rb mentioned......
