Best way to lubricate speedo cable?

Best way to lubricate speedo cable?
I think my speedo cable needs to be lubricated, but I am not sure what type of lubricant to use and what the best method of lubricating it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

all i did was bought a small tube of White Lithium Grease, i dont think it matters what kind, and the lil tube that the speedo cable is in....squirt some lithium grease in there, and wipe your cable down real good and lube it up. as you put the cable back in sorta twist and turn it clockwise.
