Fuel Pump Location

Where exactly is the fuel pump on a 1989 IROC-Z located? I am gonna be doing an engine swap sometime soon and I need to upgrade the fuel pump (as per recommendation, the engine is a 383). I heard that the fuel pump is located in the gas tank, i really hope it's not cause if it is it'd be a pain . How hard is it to replace if it is located in the gas tank?

Axle/Gears: yup, it has a peg leg
just make it easier on yourself and make sure gas tank is empty because when it is full it is a b!tch to get down (fuel tank)

pulling the talnk is the hardest part. the fuel pump will take 3-5 minutes after the tank is down. the part that sucks is that your tank is above your muffler. my 383 is doing just fine though. but if your going from FI to carbed, your in-tank pump will be way to strong and you will need a pressure regulator if you stay with the stock pump. carbed cars only need 5-7 psi. if your engine is carbed, your pump should good. just put a mechanical pump on your engine. holley makes a 7.5 psi pump for 52 bucks in summit. good deal. Part number 12-834. you may be able to see mine on my sig, lower left side, chrome.
