Too much intake / not enough cam... one of those needs to change... probably the intake, because that's not enough compression to work well with the cam you'd have to use to work well with the intake.

Splaying the mains is a major waste of money on a SJ block with stock crank and rods with 11/32" bolts. Put that money into head work instead.

Change the intake to a Performer RPM or Air Gap, and the cam to a XE268 or XE274 at the max, and I believe you'd get a much faster car, and more driveable too.

Not that RB's advice needs my approval, he's given me solid advice on my current engine, but ditto:

Don't get the Victor Jr. Intake.

I'd say not to go over the 268XE cam either. I was running some numbers on desk top dyno yesterday and the power is way higher in the RPM range. If you are gonna be using this for strip only, then by all means, get the 274 and victor Jr. If you plan on taking this for a cruise though, forget it!

I'm showing peak horsepower of 405 @ 6000 rpm and peak torque of 390 @ 4500.

Torque band is rather flat, at 2000 rpm torque is 329 and at peak horsepower torque is 354.

Often these programs are a little inflated, but should at least give you an idea of what you'll be looking at.

Sounds like a fun engine to me.

well with a 327 you could get a huge cam ... just depends on comp ratio and all that.... its a world of choices but for street/strip.... use the advice rb gave.
