Can I bypass Oil press./ fuel pump sensor

I would like to bypss that send. unit behind the intake manifold that senses oil pressure and then turns on the fuel pump. Has anyone done this? I have a 91 RS with a LO3.

Thanx, Warren

it's above the oil filter, the one on the china wall behind the intake is for the gauge. why would you want to eliminate it, it's there to save your engine if you have problems

Why would you want to disconnect it?
It supplies power to the pump if the relay goes bad don't it?

No, it just tells the pump to run when the engine is producing oil pressure. The reason I want to bpass it is because I want to run a Mechanical gauge to check the accuracy of my factory gauge, which I think is way off.

Yes you can disconnect it but, if the f/p relay shoots craps on you while it is disconnected the car will not start.
But what are the chances of that happening?

you're confused. the sender on the china wall is for the gauge, not the sender for the fuel pump, above the oil filter

It don't really matter where it is located as long as he disconnects the right one to do his test. If he gets the wrong one the first time he crawls back under there and gets to do it over again .

Why not just run a tee off the existing oil pressure sending unit port? Don't remember the the NPT thread size but it should be easy to find.

Also on my 89, there is no oil pressure sender on the back of my block by the intake...I guess the one above my oil filter doubles as the oil pressure sender/fuel pump power circuit.

But on my sister in law's 86 IROC, she has the oil pressure sender on the back of the block along with the one by the oil filter.

Maybe after 87 or 88 they eliminated the sender at the back of the intake and just ran it off the sender above the oil filter??

You are right Iroc zz3. There is no send. unit on the back of my block. I thought there was but I guess it must have been one of my other GM v8 rides. I looked the other night and there was just a square headed plug in that place. I guess I'll just run it from there. I replaced my send unit above the oil filter about a year ago and ever since then the pressure reads 60 pounds on freeway and about 35 at idle when Hot. It used to never read that high. Oh yea my car has 200k on it so I know its wrong. Thanx for the replies guys.
