Carb 2.8, 10,000MI running BAD!!

on my buddys CARB 2.8, there are some problems.
when he starts up the car, sometimes it stauls on him

after he gives it some gas, and it gets warm, when he puts it in drive, and touches the pedal lightly (like trying to go slow) it sometimes stauls on him.

he is also running very rich....here is the real kicker

the engine only has about 10,000 Miles on it.

im thinkin the distributor is messed up, the timing is prolly off and his carb needs to be re-adjusted....

would this be accurate?

if not, what else could it be?

Timing probably won't have that much of an effect on the mixture. If your "nose sensor" tells you that it's running rich, no amount of timing adjustment is going to fix that.

I smell a carb problem.

FYI, I had one of those carbs (VaraJet E2SE) and found them to be one of the most tempermental pieces of **** I'd ever worked on.

YMMV, of course.

You ought to do something I always wanted to try, which is to put a 4bbl on it. It works on the 3.8L, but I'm not sure if the 2.8 isn't too small for it to do any good...
