1/4 Mile Time Not Quite Right

Ok, I think something is still wrong with my car. I have quite a few upgrades to my 305TPI 88 T/A and when I run the 1/4 with my exhaust dump cap on I only run a 16 or 16.1 but with it off I run a 14.8.. Im happy that i have gotten it down to 14.8 so far but It should be running close to that with the cap on I think.. It could be just cause I have almost 160,000 miles and need a rebuild.. Any advice anyone.. Thanx

Sounds like whatever is behind your dump (muffler, cat, Y-pipe, whatever) has issues. Somehow I doubt that rebuilding the motor will fix a restricted exhaust, so I wouldn't advise that just yet.

Yeah, those have to be some pretty serious restrictions to add over a full second....

Actually I have seen cars run only 14's in the 1/4 with full exhaust, they drop the exhaust and hit 12's. 1 second is not a big suprise. I've seen many cars better there times by 2 and more seconds, depends and the engine. If teh car seems to run nice in both cases I wouldn't worry about it>

Check your cat if it is still there. It could be all clogged.

Well I don't think there is any major restrictions after that dump pipe. When the cap is on the exaust is running through a racing flowmaster muffler with dual outs.. The cat is not even a year old and it's a high flow cat. plus the dump is after the cat.. I just think something is wrong cause with the mods I have with the cap on it should be running better than high 15's low 16.. And yes that motor is due for a rebuild.. I used a stethescope and can here some noises, sounds like a wrist pin is missing too.. Anyways thanks for the help all.. any more info would be helpful too.. Thanx again..
