87 GTA starting issue

My car (L98) has to turn over for around two, maybe three, seconds before
it starts. It idles and runs perfectly after that. I have tried turning the
ignition on for a few seconds before engaging the starter, in case somehow
the fuel was draining away or something; it makes no difference. The car is
completely stock except for the Flowmaster I put on it. It has all the
pollution controls and everything.

It has major brand 93 octane gas in it.

Any ideas? Is this normal? Plugs or wires? (it doesn't miss-- it runs great
til it falls on it's face at 4000 RPM.) ? My 2000 WS6 didn't do it, but I
know it was a cat of a different color.

Thanks

Frank

Austin,

Does this only occur at the first start of the day, or even at a warm restart?

It happens all the time, hot or cold, with the exception of an immediate restart; then it starts almost instantly.

If you have a fuel pressure gauge, monitor the fuel pressure as soon as the pump runs teh prime cycle (ignition ON). Also, you should monitor the pressure after the engine is stopped to see if the pressure will maintian for at least fifteen minutes. You may have regulator/injector leakage.
