Mods & Fuel Economy
Mods & Fuel Economy
I have an 89 TA 305 with a 3" Flowmaster American Thunder catback system on it. I don't notice much power from it unless i'm flooring it, i notice it stays in the gear longer than it used to, goes into higher rpms, i guess goes a little faster (its an automatic). What are some other mods that I can do to my car, that are fairly cheap, and I can get noticeable acceleration and power. I read something about an LT1 cam and intake. How much power can I expect from the cam, and where can I get the intake. Also, will the intake harm the engine in any way? What else can I do to get more power and speed? I also don't want to sacrifice fuel economy, it's poor enough, I get about 140-150 miles to a tank, not even driving aggressively, I dont know if this is to empty, because my fuel gauge is shot. Which is another question, sorry...you know how when you turn the ignition off, all the gauges go down, all except the fuel gauge, what gives, I dont think it gives me a very accurate reading either.
89,
For free/cheap modds, check out the Tech Articles on the front page of the site. Many things you can do to your car to make more power will also make it more efficient.
Understanding you mileage is difficult since we don't know how you drive. You may actually be getting very good mileage if most of your driving is local. Miles per tankful are a lot less descriptive than miles per gallon. If you knwo how many gallons of fuel are used for each refill you can have a better handle on you condition.
As for you fuel gauge, your gauge itself may be stuck or you may have a sendr/wiring problem. The easiest way to determine that is to break into the wiring harness near the tank and start checking.
