Roller cam Button?
I'm installing a LPE 74211 roller cam in a 87 (roller cam) block.
Do I need a cam button, or does the plate control the fore-aft play? There doesn't seem to be much play after the timing gear was installed.

the retainer plate keeps the cam from moving around. the cam you use has to be made for the retainer plate, can't use the retainer with a aftermarket cam only factory replacement rollers. i'd guess the LPE cam would be a factory replacement.

The cam I just installed moves back and forth a little, is it supposed to? It is a Crane roller, my timing gear is not on yet.

Mine had abt 1/4" of play untill I installed the gear. After gear was installed, the play was just barely noticeable.
Check it with the gear installed and bolts tightened.
