91 v6 no start, but cranks
91 v6 no start, but cranks
I had this problem right before xmas, go in the car, turned over, ran Very rough for a minute then died. Eventully got it towed and had the Spark plugs replaced (could do myself, at school) got it fixed, drove home, spent 2 weeks there, with out problem, got back here, and fri it acted up and flipped the check engine light on, then thurned off 30 sec. later... then again on sat it did it. then i drove around sat night, no probs. Parked till today. Car has been "harder" to start after it sits (takes 3-5 sec to finally catch, where as warm its 1/2 - 2) started, idled, and as it sat it got worse and worse and then died. And so that now it wont even catch and run any more. fuel pump is good (i can hear it running) and of course i checked the wires to the plugs. any ideas? I reset the ECM to see if that would get her going but after it didnt, realized i just lost my error codes i might have :P It runs the starter well and cylinders catch now and then and it hiccups, but it doesnt fully get going. Any immediate thoughts? Thanks a ton, F-bodys forever!

Kodak,
Is this a 3.1L V-6? If so, try spraying a bit of starter fluid into the throttle body while an assistant cranks the engine. If the engine fires, you likely have a fuel delivery issue. If not, you need to investigate the ignition system, including timing.
I'm guessing by your description that you may have a fuel issue. You'll need to check fuel pressure to diagnose the problem. Possibilities are the fuel filter, pump, or injectors. If you can, get a fuel pressure reading.

It could be the module but most of the time they just die on you. My car does the same thing. It takes forever to turn over in the morning or when its cold. it will fire right up though if it was just running. My fuel pressure is fine to I have a gauge mounted in the cowl. also, my car has started to have a lope in its idle and half the time it does this, it dies. And if i push the clutch in to come to a stoplight, it dies. not all the time but at least 6 out of 10 times. No codes either.
Kodak,
I mentioned timing because if this happened suddenly, you may have had a timing change due to a slipped chain. If you are getting a strong spark, the next thing to check would be the timing of the spark. If you have weak or no spark, start looking into the ignition system. HEI switching module, coil, wires, pickup coil, etc.
