I need a carb intake expert!! (1987 lg4 vs older small blocks)
I heard that my intake (LG4 305 1987 Camaro Iroc) is different then all or most of the other small block intakes,,,because of bolt holes or something,,,does anyone have any pics or can explain whats the deal??? I would like to be able to pic up an intake some were and know the difference by just looking at it! Thanks

The center two bolts one each side of the intake, that bolt the intake to the heads, are at a different angle than the other bolts. This makes it a little easier to torque those bolts.
You can use the older style intake by elongating those holes so the bolts will fit into the heads.

5-7 has you covered. Beginning with the 1987 model year, SBC heads had the center two intake bolts canted upward. The holes were drilled and tapped at 72° from the intake flange instead of being perpendicular (90°) like in years past. The only exception to this was on the Corvette aluminum heads, which retained the 90° bolt holes in those two positions. That means that with stock iron heads, ant '87-later intake should bolt right up. You can use an early design intake if you elongate the center two holes and either machine the base at an 18° angle of use tapered structural washers to bear the bolt load at the correct angle. Tapered washers like this are available at any place that sells structural fasteners for construction steelwork. They are square and may require soem trimming, but the common flange angle on structural 'H' beams is 15°, so with only a little grinding or filing, you can make them fit perfectly.
The remainder of the bolt holes and ports are in the same positions as the older design, so you should have no problems. Again, the exception is the Corvette heads/intakes, which don't have the integral exhaust port and canted center bolts.
