question about how oil filter mounts to the block

Hate to sound really stupid, but I took my motor to the machine shop a while ago and the part that the oil filter screws onto got taken off the block and the machine shop forgot to give it back to me with the block. My question is where do I get one of these? I can get one from a junkyard, but are they all the same on all SBC's? Also, what is the actual name of it so I know what to tell the guy at the parts counter?Thx.

I've always referred to it as the oil filter boss, I think it's just two bolts holding it in, but don't recall the size.

Yes, they should be the same for all SBC's...least the one's I've seen are.

Yup, 2 bolts, 1/4" IIRC. Its official name is "oil filter adapter".

Also called oil filter relief valve by some.

Go back to the machine shop and pick one up. They should have one around (yours, for instance).

I always take that off before the block goes to the shop. It shouldn't be there when the block is tanked.

Oh, they are only the same from '68-up. The canister filter type is different, as is the block (okay, I'm dating myself, I know...).

Thanx for the help fellas, I tracked one down and pulled it off a car at the local boneyard.
