for my cylinder heads (416's)................

3 angle valve job with uprgrade to 1.94 intake valves
springs seats cut to accept larger springs
machining for guideplates (although i can just use the Louis tool)
and have them machined for screw in studs

how much should all of this cost me?
$400-$500????

Can't use the Louis tool for guide plates, it only lengthen the slot for shorter (higher ratio) rockers, it is specifically designed not to widen it, which is required since the slot in the guide plates is certainly not going to line up with the slot in the head.

Yeah, $400 at least. If you can get them to clean them up and rough-cut the seat for 1.94" valves, then give them back so you can port them, then take them back and finish the seat work, you'll get the best, easiest, cheapest results. Otherwise you'll have to pay them by the hour to port them in order for the valve change to make any improvement.... more $$$$.

Just a suggestion, you can find rebuilt heads on ebay alot less than what you will pay for the machine shop to do it. They had a set of 416's with the 1.94 valve for $325 the other day. Lots less downtime as you can drive your car while waiting for them rather than wait for the machine shop to finish them up. BTW these are machine shops putting these up for bid.

I had 2.02 1.60 SS tapered-stem swirl-polished valves installed (L-98 iron heads), bowl hogged, trimmed guides for a .560 lift, new double springs, new chromemoly retainers, new locks, milled .003", magnafluxed, new positive-type seals, push-rod holes enlarged, screw-in studs, raised guide plates, and valves un-shrouded all for $450.
