hatch latch keeps re-latching...
everytime i pop the hatch from inside the car, its a race to get to the back of the car before it re-latches and pulls the hatch back down. The rear struts are brand new. Why does it do this? and what can i do to fix it?
i hate that the search isnt working...sorry for this post...found this one...

Ha, you have to race back there too? Luckily I can use the remote for my alarm to pop it while I stand back there now. I think part of the problem is the lack of strength of the gas struts that hold the hatch up. Especially in cold weather, they have trouble holding up the heavy TA spoiler. Even when new, they don't do very well. I haven't looked into adjustments, but it doesn't seem like they would fix the problem.

I agree with MikeS. I have new struts all the way around. Even the hood needs a little help when it's cold like it is.

I had a the same problem on my Iroc new struts are definitley requried but since you already have those I would try putting some silcon emulsion on the huge peice of weather stripping that seals the hatch. The weather stripping can stick and pull down on the hatch. The silicon emulsion is available through GM dealers and sould be used periodically on all weather stripping.

Many people have told me that if you get a fiberglass wing in the back...like the aero wing on the firebirds...it helps. Most people who hav ethem say their hatch almost goes up on its own. Its that damn heavy spoiler. I have new shocks too...and it still struggles to go up sometimes.

Yep. I wish I could afford a fiberglass one right now. That way I'd fix the latching problem and get rid of the wing in poor condition (wavy, cracket, etc). But at 400 bucks, it's going to have to wait a while.
