Anyone else own a second gen trans am?
Hello people, my daily driven street monster is an '84 trans am special edition. I've also been restoring a '79 trans am and building a 455 buick motor for it for a little over a year now. I'm pushing myself to having it done this summer i just cant wait any longer to drive it. Its an odd motor to throw in it, and most likely requires alot of mods to do it, but this beast is rated at 370hp and 510lbs of torque. STOCK. That alone will make the wheels dance. If anyone knows alot about second gens and body work, let me know, I have a question about changing my '79 tail to a complete '78 tail. I have all the parts, but they dont line up because the rear frame structure of the uni-body changed after '78. Does anyone know of a forum for second gen birds?Anyone else doing something similar? Or just own a second gen?
I'd like to here from ya.
No matter whats under the hood, a Trans Am will allways look good.

I owned a 79 firebird espirit a couple of years back. I turned it into a 79 ta clone: fenders with vents, shaker hood, all the spoilers and the 78 grid style lights.
What exactly do you describe as the tail? the rear-subframe?

hey Bradkeith, thats the same thing im doing. Orignally it was a formula, but i changed the fenders, hood, added spoilers and put on a '78 honeycomb style lights front end. I have the '78 bumper and tail lights. The '78 bumper fits on there fine, but the the tail lights wont fit, and i even tried to use the '79 rear lights with the '78 rear bumper, (which i orignally planned on),but it dosent work. You know why? Because the framming(or housing)for the tail lights changed over in '79. '78 and down you could access the bulbs just by opening the trunk and '79 and up you have to remove the whole tail light to access the bulb, ya with me? I want to keep my '78 front end but you can tell easally that it dosent match the '79 rear because the designs are completly diffrent. I was justwondering if any one did this. Bradkeith, You said you owned a '79, what happened?
