seized motor maybe..

i just bought an 88 camaro from some guy for $700... it has a nice exterior/interior , brand new tires like $400 for the 4. came with 2 MTX 500 watt 10's .. i dont kbnow anything about speakers, but a friend said there pretty good.. ive wanted a 5 speed camaro for a long time... and it was a 5 speed, the guy said it has a fairly new clutch in it. the car didnt start.

he told me he thought it might have been the starter , cuz when u turn the key it clicked. he said one day he was backing it up, it stalled, he went to start it again and it just clicked. he told me worse case scenario could be blown motor.. i didnt really care too much , since car was 700 - 400 brand new tires , new rear shocks , the 2 10's .. plus i could strip the damn car.. all the exterior panels are great.

anyways i got it towed out to my dads house, when he got home we went out to he garage he put a ratchet up to the main pully (the crankshaft pulley maybe, i dont know too much about cars really, i just know i like em.)? tried to move it to see if it was locked up.. he couldnt budge it, we didnt really have a good breaker bar in the garage so we found something that was only an extra like 7 or 8 inches... my dad knowsquite a bit about cars and everything. but does this methood work to test a locked up motor? and if it does, how hard would it be to make the pulley spin? and is there a way to fix it other then replacing a new motor? i was gonna try to do this to my 90 RS, to see how hard it was to make it spin, but i wasnt sure if it could screw something up.

any help would be appreciated alot.. the car is an 88 2.8 MPFI 5 spd

You should have no problem spinning a 2.8 with a rachet. The early 2.8 had alot of trouble with cranks breaking, but that was supposed to be worked out by your year. If I had to guess, based on the history of the 2.8, I would say it is probably toast. On the other had it sounds like you got your money's worth in parts. Especially if it's got any good interior pieces. In fact like me know what color the interior is, and if you want to sell pieces.

white exterior / red interior ... but youre like all the way across country hehe.. the seats are kinda off colored, with some black in them... i feel as if i got my $$ worth.. just dont know if i wanna spend my time fixing this up , or strip it, and juink it. i have another f body, my roomate has an f bod, a few friends have f bodys... and the fact that its a base camaro... the only noticeable option i have seen on the car is the ground effects... not even a damn delay wiper i havent written down the RPO codes yet and see what all it had..

Sounds like a good score nonetheless. Good luck finding a good motor for it.

You could break the balancer bolt off in the crank, doing that way...use a strap wrench on the balancer.

have you looked at the oil, maybe it'll give you a clue to what is wrong.

Did you remember to take the spark plugs out when you were trying to spin the motor with a ratchet?

With the valves closed that thing will be one hell of a work out.

Also pull the starter out and give it a 12 V feed off a battery and see if it really works or not. I've gone through 3 starters myself, easy job to replace them even the first time through.
