Hey there guys, just thought I'd tell ya'll that I scored a FREE 350 and auto tranny today. the setup is still in a running '78 pickup and I'll be pulling it in the next week or so, what are my chances that it's a 4 bolt main block ? also is there any possibility it has TH-400 in it ? I'll check all this out when I actually get the truck but for free I don't see how I can loose. this motor is earmarked for a build up and to be put in the drag car.

Pretty good.

Slim to none.

The heads, pistons, and everything else about that motor suck. Especially the heads. Get rid of them immediately. The only thing worth keeping is the block itself, and maybe the crank if it's forged.

Would that have a casting number 3970014? If so, it's likely a two-bolt, but does have a cast nodular crank. The can be converted to a four-bolt cap down the center three positions for a hundred bucks plus boring costs.

Also, are the heads are 8993 or 8997 castings, they're boat anchor, 76cc smogger heads, suitable as doorstops, wheel clocks, etc.

If you look at the casting numbers, check the data at www.mortec.com
