Can I mount my MSD behind rear seats?
I want to put it behind the seats on that flat area. Is that too far away?
you could put it back there, but you would need to lengthen your wires. why would you want it there? it would be alot less of a hassle. if its under the hood, you wont have to worry about wire or running it under the carpet. sounds like a pain, but people do wierd things...

Under hood mounting is a definate NO-NO. Premature box failure garunteed-waaaay too much under hood heat plus the moisture problems when you wash teh car or drive in the rain. Just about everybody I run with has them mounted inside the pass. compartment, alot are screwed to the firewall. I installed my 4th gen interior and mounted the box in the glove box-because it's there, I never had one before, and the only thing I carry is my window chalk and now that can go in my new map pockets in the door panels, paperwork will still be in the console. Before I decided to do the interior sway, I was going to remove the elastic thingy in front of the pass. on the dash, cut out an opening, make a braket so the front of the MSD box would be flush mount to the dash or set back a little and cover with plexiglass.
Not that I have a lot of experience with it, but I would think to minimize inductive losses and provide the fastest possible switching, you'd want to keep the coil primary leads as short as possible. What's the use of having an MSD if the current keeps flowing from induction a few milliseconds after the box shuts off the discharge?

I'm with Vader on this.. you dont want long primary leads. Another problem is the leads can pick up noise, which the msd then amplifies and your coil then fires at the wrong time.. Find a closer place.. I've run my msd on my 70 C10 mounted on the radiator support now for 6 years.. no problems. We get 144" of rain a year here. So you'd think any weather problems would have shown up.. I've been thinking of moving mine to the firewall or fender somewhere though. Just because I think mines too far away.

I'm with 'IHI' cause the heat & moisture problem out weighs extending the wire a LITTLE. MSD I believe recommands bigger gauge wire if you extend it any.
Get the best of both worlds, and mount it on the inside of the firewall. In fact you can shorten the wires this way if your coil is mounted in the distributor, or like with a blaster 2 coil on the firewall next to the distributor.
