fuel pump question
I have a mechanical fuel pump that I suspect is bad. When I'm gunnin' on down the road the car starts to miss or bog then pick up for a second then bog or miss again and it's a pretty even pattern off bog and go, bog and go. This usually happens at high RPMs or under severe load only. Any suggestions?

Umpteen years ago I had an '81 GMC 1/2 ton, auto, 305. It was doing the same thing. It'd be fine up to about 3500 RPM then, "blah, vroom, blah, vroom". I felt like a damn jigabo.
The local GMC dealer wanted ~$400 for a new 2V Rochester carb. I said...... F_ _ _ THAT!!!! I went to NAPA and got a rebuild kit for $35. Didn't help.
Next thing I did was buy a $35 fuel pump, and WHOLLA!!! No more jerky.
First thing I'd check is the basics. Filter, vacuum hoses, float level, blah blah blah. The cheapest is sometimes the easiest.

I recently rebiult my carb, and this still happens, I also bought a new pump only 1 1\2 years ago. But it's only like 12.00 so I'll go get a new one tonight and put it in.
