fuel pump?

hey all i just got back from house hunting in florida, and my 86 305 with the quadrapuke was only sitting for 5 days when i wetn to start it up it woudlnt start. i had to have my girl spray starting fluid donw the carb whiel i cranked it then it started and she had to keep spraying it for a bit for the car to stay running, now it starts up but i have a feeling the fuel pump has seen better days i replaced it a few years ago but the car has sit for up to a year without being started and have never come across this problem, i think the pump is junk, any other opinions, i see no reason it had to be started this way the pump does not have to be primed like that just from sitting for 5 days. before i go put in another pump id liek other opinions thanks

88,

Before you get all excited about pulling the old pump off, remove the fuel line at the carb abd see if you're getting any fuel delivery. If so, you can eliminate the pump, lines, and pickup screen.

If not, you still haven't condemned the pump (yet). You'll need to remove the inlet line (from the tank) and see if there is fuel present. The line would have to be removed to replace the pump, anyway.
