ok, I did two stupid things which were entirely the reason I haven't gotten it started since doing the engine swap:
1. distributor 180 out
2. valve lash was way off. the valves weren't opening nearly enough to get fuel into the cylinders :P
now I just have to set timing, get exhaust installed, and track down a couple of shorts in the wiring
