fuel pump

ok i just picked up a 87 formula and i wanted to put in a carbed engine with a mechanical fuel pump, but i was wondering, the car came with TPI and i was wondering, do i have to put in a carbed engine's fuel tank/pump, or can i just pull the fuse for the electrical pump and just use a mechanical pump on the side of the engine?

what would i have to do to get this to work?

thanks for any info.

The L98 & LB9 cams have a fuel pump lobe. IIRC the block still has the boss for it too. I've heard of blocks that didn't have the passage drilled for the rod, but I've never seen one like that. If yours has that, then it should just all bolt right up.

Alternatively, some people have been able to use the existing FI pump, and get a 3-port regulator (high pressure in, low pressure out, & return) to work; as long as you can set it down to 5 psi or so, and not have it spike up to more than 7 psi ever at any time, that should work fine too.

Does the computer run the fuel pump in TPI's? If so how do you get the stock pump to work when doing a TPI-carb swap?
