Change carb and distributor?

Change carb and distributor?
I've got an 84' Camaro with an ACDelco 305 (has about 8000 miles on it) i want to junk the carb and the computer, but i'm not sure what all is being run by the computer... and i've heard that to change the computer controled q-jet to a non cc carb you have to change the distributor too? please help, my car is running like crap...

yep gotta change both, and i think you have to wire a switch to control the torque convertor lockup but i could be wrong......
