fuel pump

hey guys im puttin a new motor in my camaro soon, and i was looking at my old trashed motors fuel pump, well, pumps. its got a mechanical pump on the block and what looks like an electric pump..is the electric pump to get fuel from the tank to the mechanical pump?? what do i have to do to get fuel to my new motor?
