Camshaft install and break in procedures.

I've just stabed my new cam in, and I forgot where to set the initial rocker arm settings at..ie.. #1 TDC intake at 1.5 turns, #3 exhaust at 1.5 turns, or what ever it is, I forgot, anyone know?

Also, after inital start up, you are supposed to back off the rocker nut until tapping starts, then turn the nut how many turns?

Also, what is the best way to break in the new cam? I've heard run it at about 2000 rpm for apx 20 mins.

i asked the same guestion a few weeks ago when i picked up my motor, the guy told me about 15 min dont go below 2500, , , but supposly the roller cams are easyer to break in and dont require as much attention, , just what i have heard
, dont forget to prime , he stressed highly against not doing so,

Hope you remembered to prelube the cam lobes. Prime the oiling system, and start the motor. Fluctuate between 2000 and 2500 rpm's for 20 minutes.

as for the rockers, I adjusted them by the book and had problems with them coming loose. With the valve covers off, I tap the starter motor (to turn it over just a little bit) and watch the intake rocker on the #1 cylinder. As soon as it closes, stop, and tighten the rocker until the pushrod won't turn by hand then turn the nut a half turn more. Do the same with both rockers on #1 cyl. Then move onto the next cylinder until you've done them all. This is how I've done my motor, and about 2 dozen of them at work.

what i do is start the motor, back off nut till it ticks. tighten nut a tad with hand till i feel it wont trun anymore while its still running and then give it a 1/2 turn. set the set screw and your all set. next one....

I've finally found the prodcedure in the book for setting the preload. I've done it, but they still seem a little loose, must have blead down. I did prefill all the lifters, and used a ton of lube assembly on the cam and lifters. I've installed the cam on a hydrolic lifter 86 block, with 100,000 miles on it. I don't think I should have to pre-oil the system, should I?

I've heard of the idea of once it's running, back off the rocker nut until you hear a slight tapping, then tighten it by a certain turn. I'm just not sure if it was 1/2, or 3/4 turn.

I cut a hole in a set of valve covers just to adjust rocker arms, while it is running. (keeps oil where it should be...most of the time )
I always back off until I hear a tap then tighten a 1/2 turn. My uncle did a full turn once on all the rickers and the car would not start after that.
