is the chip in the key hooked into the computer?

alright you computer guru's! i have a serious problem that my simple, one track mind of going straight to carbs can't understand. i just did a swap from a 2.8 to a carbed 350. i am now having difficulty. i have power to the starter, and i have power to my key. (ie the power for my radio and gauges comes on with the annoying buzz sound) when i go to fire it up, there is nothing, no click, no nothing. my dad and i are sitting here trying to understand it all when he comes up with the computer chip in my key must be tied into the computer. well, the problem with that idea is that i just ripped all of that crap out of there about two weeks ago and didn't keep track of what i was cutting. i am sorry for the ignorance of my simple young mind, but can someone please help me? moderators, if this is in the wrong forum, please move it.

Chip in your key? You mean the resistor pellet in the key that operates the VATS? (Vehical Anti Theft System) Your message is a little hard to understand, but thats what it sounds like you are talking about. On my '89, which has the VATS System and the 350, there is a module that reads the reistance in the pellet on the key, and when it does it grounds the starter relay, and sends a square wave signal to the computer that lets it pulse the injectors. So, if thats not working, you get no fuel to the injectors, and usally no rotation.

If this is what your talking about.. there is a lot of info in the Electronics board. Just do a search for VATS.

Yea, and one word VATS. Do a seach on how to remove this feature. Next time just don't cut wires until you know what they
are for.

It's called Pass-Key, which is PART of the VATS.
