Finally got the 800DP working.. within
Well i FINALLY got the 800DP working. As you know, my car would not idle after the 750 vac sec to 800dp carb swap, but it ran great above 1200 rpms.
I ended up using the front metering block off of the 750 vac sec, and ALL the gaskets..
Basically i rebuilt the 800dp with the 750.
Now it works great. The metering blocks were IDENTICAL except that the 750 had a ported vacuum. The gaskets were all identical as well.
Now the ONLY problem i have is after i floor it from say 0-90 it's a little flooded when i let off.. i have to "clean it out" a little.
I'm running 81s in the front and 90s in the back (6.5" PV in front). Maybe i should drop to 76s in the front..
Shane
Thanks for all your help.

I would check the old metering plate for a clogged passage. A bit of casting flash may have landed in one or a piece of trash. Also check the metering block to make sure it is flat. I have yet to see one from holley that is perfectly flat, but usually the gaskets can take up the difference. This one may just be badly out of shape causing leaks.

Shane,
Glad to see the 800 is working - although I don't know why swapping the metering blocks worked. HHuummmm......it actually points to a piece of munge in the idle air circuit- Holleys are incredibly sensitive to dirt.
In fact, if you can see a piece of munge with your naked eye, it's big enough to fangoo a Holley. Fortunately, once tuned, nothing short of a BG or Demon will run as well.
Uhhh...you might try experimenting with the PV, and definitely jet it until it has a nice plug reading under all driving conditions. I suggest a full-throttle run thru 3 gears, then shut it off clean, coast to the side of the road, and ****** a plug. This will tell you WOT rich or lean.
Then, drive around on a 10-mile city/highway loop and ****** a plug. Rich or lean? Keep tuning until BOTH driving conditions produce a good plug reading. Then go hammer it at the track. I gotta know if this humper made it into the 11's.
Good luck.
