Oil sender question... Yup, more problems...
Oil sender question... Yup, more problems...
I've changed the ignition coil, new distributor, spark plug wires, spark plugs, and set the timing right all in the past two weeks, not to mention I've changed out EVERY sensor, and my car is still hard starting and acting like a retard (launches off the line then falls flat on it's face). I'm also looking to see if I might have a faulty fuel pump relay, since the fuel pressure seems to be right where it needs to be, and I'm not thinking it's the pump.
I did a search on the oil sender, and I saw that it will cause really hard starting if it's malfunctional. Well, mine is hard to start in the morning or when the car is cold, and is fine after the car is warmed up. Also, the oil pressure gauge is REALLY flaky. It bounces back and forth from point to point like it's possessed.
So I'm thinking about changing out the oil pressure sender. Is it pretty much a self explanitory installation once I get under there and look at it? Could it be cutting off the fuel by "thinking" I have no oil pressure at times?
I'm pretty much stumped here.

Crisp,
You may have two issues. The oil pressure transducer on your car operates the gauge and is used as a redundant system to power the fuel pump. If the fuel pump relay circuit fails for any reason, the oil pressure switch is supposed to supply power to the pump. If the relay is operating correctly, the oil pressure switch won't make any difference.
There's little doubt you have something odd happening in the gauge circuit, but you might want to check the fuel pressure once you get the gauge working.
