Timing go bad?

I have an 83 Z28 with an Stock LG4. Is the timing anything to check very often? Would it change over time?

It is probably a good idea to check the timing. It shouldn't change on its own, but distributor wear can affect it slightly over time. You may also want to experiment with a little more base timing advance than the factory specified, since you can get a little more power and fuel economy with the greater advance so long as you avoid detonation.

Yes what Vader said.

The only way the timing will ever change by itself is if perhaps the distributor bolt isnt torqued all the way down, if that was the case it would be probable that the distributor could twist around.

The second way the timing could change would be if the timing chain slipped... That situation sucks, but usually doesnt happen untill around 180-190,000 miles.
