Restoration in progress
Any help in the process of rebuilding my old Formula will be greatly appreciated.
The car has been sitting for quite some time after hitting a deer. I know it still runs, it gets started approxamately every 6 months. It's all the way back in Oklahoma while I sit here in the Detroit area until early May when I will go get the car. Any tips for for prepping the engine that has sat for a few years? Anything I should look for? Things that are aleardy planned for are fluid changes, spark plugs and wire change and a new distributor.
Thanx guys

I too have an 88. Mine is a 88 camaro 305 TBI.
I bought the car new and it served me well until 1999 when the oil pressure dropped to zero after the motor warmed up. The car spent 4 years sitting at my dad's until he finally got around to going thru the engine and fixing it.
My original plan was to fix mine up. For the price of getting the car repainted here in Seattle, I can replace my old coupe w/ a 90k z28 camaro.
Before you start determine what the costs are going to be. If someone comes along and plows into it the insurance company most likely will not give you what you deserve.
Of course on the other hand there is something to be said for sentimental value. Although, I'm close to writing mine off, I may still fix mine up. I may just make it faster and run the faded and dented car at the dragstrip for entertainment. I'm thinking I need a hobby.
Good luck w/ your project.

Change all the fluids......I installed my 327 after it sat for about 3yrs..I did all the oil change stuff used engine flush...and 9mo later i am rebuilding due to rust and such eating up all the bearings in the motor!!..Dont think I would run the car without tearing down the motor and cleaning her up...just to be safe. Might ccost you less in the long run....as for the car: Check the Brakes! Tires may be bad also....If you are truley wanting to restore the car, trailer it where you are going , and do just that...sure, it might run. But you may do some pretty expensive damage.......just a suggestion.
