Help!!!!!!

i have a 87 irocz..... i just installed full msd..... distibuter..coil.. 6a.. wires... wire harness for the coil.... i cant get my timing right... it is throwing a error of 42.... i guess timing.... i have a horrible spark knock when i throw a little gas to it aswell.... can any one help with some tips on timing... thanks for the help

set #1 to TDC on compressions, set rotor to point to #1 post on cap install distributor. if you do, or have done all this it should fire and run. make sure your work is good on the new parts, but i bet you're problem is distributor installed wrong.

I concur. Pull the distributor out and set the motor with #1 at tdc. You can stick a piece of wire into the #1 cylinder into a valve relief and crank the engine over by hand to feel the motion. Stop rotating the engine when the piston stops going up, and you found tdc. Drop the distributor in like ede said, make sure the oil pump shaft lines up. Start the car, if it backfires, pull the distributor again and rotate it 180 degrees and try again. Set timing from there.
