problem with piston rings

im trying to put my motor together and i checked the piston ring end gap and it came out to be way to big. it was .068. the block is .040 over and i am using keith black part#120. i am using sealed power rings part# e251k40. is this alrite considering the pistons are hypereutectic? i need help

how are you checking end gap? are you using something to square the ringwith? you may just have them cocked when you checked them. sure you have the right rings and not for an over bored block? don't know about KB pistons but alot, if not all, hypers need a increase in the end gap, 40% i think over stock specs.

so the stock spec i think is .035 isnt it? so about .068 would be right. has anybody used keith black before? i dont want to put the bottom end together and have the end gaps off.

Stock spec is something like .020" - .022". That's a little on the large side... I'd shoot for something in the .028" range with those pistons.....

How are you measuring them?

The best way without any special tools is to oil the bore you're fitting them to, put a piston in the bore, then put the ring in the bore just a little way down, and bump the piston up against the ring to square it. Then measure with a feeler gauge.

I'd rather have too much gap than too little; but that's more than I'd want to run. Mic the cyls, make sure you have what you think you have.

i dont think it is a .040 over block, installed a piston for the hell of it and it rocked back and forth in the bore. someone is gonna get chewed out come monday.
