distributor removal and installation, TPI

I need to pull my distributor to change my intake manifold on a 88 GTA TPI. Did a search and found stuff for a V6 dont know if anythings diffrent. My Haynes manual is crap tells me to undo the bolt and pull it out, must be more indepth than that. Any tricks/tips/warnings about doing this? As you can tell I never pulled the distributor out and feel VERY uncomfortable about doing so. If the distributor doesnt go back in exactly where it should, what would happen/take to fix it? Thanks

you can note/mark the location of the distributor body and the rotor and r&r it as it sits or bring it to compression stroke on #1 before doing the r&r

Yeah just mark the distributor as stated above and you'll be fine as long as you don't bump the motor over. Disconnect the battery so you don't accidentally crank it over. Once it's in verify timing just to make sure it's correct, but this should get you almost exactly where the dist used to be.
