Distributor HELP!!

I had to change my manifold and during the process it included taking out the distributor, so I took a laser pen, marked where the rotor went on the distributor, then marked in 2 places on the firewall where the distributor should match up, when I go to reinstall, I cant get them to match up evenly with the distributor actually on the manifold flush, I can get it close but the distributor isn't flush with the manifold. I can get I close about an inch away from the mark on the rotor/distributor and have the fire wall mark line up, If I move the rotor to make it line up, will that fawk anything up?? ( I moved it to match but marked where it used to be so I can change it if necessary) PLEASE HELP ME! Don't want to mess anything up, never messed with the distributor before besides for timing, if you cant understand what I saying tell me Ill try to be clearer, Sorry for the long post, BUT PLEASE HELP ME!!

BTW its a 88 GTA TPI 5.7 in case thats relevant

The distributor has a spot where the oil pump drive shaft has to line up. It's probably not lined up, that's why the distributor isn't sitting flush against the intake.

You need a long flat head screw driver. With the distributor out, put it into the hole and move the oil pump drive shaft a little at a time (it may take you a few trys) until the distributor drops in all the way and lines up with the marks you made.

You're not going to mess anything up if you try to turn the rotor because it won't turn. The gears are up against the camshaft which won't rotate unless the crankshaft does.

But I got the distributor in all the way flush, and was an inch away from my rotor/distributor mark, and was able to move the rotor where it should line up. What should I do now?
