Build up on throttle body.

I noticed I have a decent amount of build up on my TB. Can I disconnect my MAF, start up my car and use regular carb cleaner while it's running, or am I better off keeping the car off and cleaning it that way?

Should I use regular carb cleaner or look for a product that's FI specific?

Yes, you can remove the ductwork and run the engine to clean the TB. You'll set an error code (34) when you do, but at least you'll know why, and can clear the code by disconnecting the battery cables or ECM fuse for a few minutes.

Any carb cleaner that is safe for catalytic converters and oxygen sensors should work fine.

Your other option is to remove the TB and clean it off the engine.
