wow...I think 260 Deg. is too hot...help

i drive the car for no more than 7-8 minutes and that is how hot it gets...I have a blown head gasket and it drained all the coolant...but i just put some straight water in the catch tank and ran it and nothing changed and i dont think that a blown head gasket could cause it to run that hot can it? please help...the car is stock. oh..hee hee one more thing. can i pour water into the radiator while the car is off? I just heard this crazy commment that it could crack the block if the car wasnt on..once again thanx.

A head gasket would cause intense overheating.

Never add cold water to a hot engine.

Just 2 things I've picked up over a couple years of driving.

Hope that helps.

After you stat opens up how low does the temp drop? How quickly do you notice the temperature change?

Is your fan turning on at 220?

Coolant will provide better cooling efficiency than straight water, I do believe that's why we use it.

running too hot ??

Fix the head gasket. No point in putting water in the plastic tank, it will never get to the radiator. That only works if the system is not leaking etc. Rad will suck in extra water when required but not the amount you are loosing, No way. Any way with a blown head gasket you will be blowing air and gases into radiator till pressure is enough to let water out of cap and out.
FIX THE GASKET mate..
