Weird ticking and it's not the valves

I tried adjusting the valves again, still there. It kinda sounds like a loose rocker but its not, it got a little louder after racing on saturday. I would say it must be coming from the lower end but I don't know. I have ran this motor for 20k miles and it has always been there since day one. I have had 3 differend cams in the motor and every one has ticked. When I tore the motor down 8K ago for a rering (moly rings don't ever buy them) everything looked fine. I have been told it could be a guideplate but it doesn't sound like it. I need help, this is really pissing me off.

it may also be a loose piston pin slapping making the noise...

Check your exhaust manifolds/headers and make sure they are tight.

I installed cranes roller tip rocker arms a few weeks ago. I made sure they were all tighten down to the right preload, and after a few days I also noticed I kind of ticking from the valve covers. The engine seems to run fine, but I would like to know what is causing it, and is it bad.

i have had this happen to me after racing also. the hedders love to leak on my Z. get yourself some good gaskets or just double check the hedder bolts to see if any came loose. hedder locks are a great investment.

I hope you are right brian, I think they might be leaking. I took it down to a local machine shop and he said it sound like a few rods hitting something. It's a good excuse for bigger cam to get me into the 11's
