I'm sure I'm going to sound like an idiot.....

My '87 IROC-Z has the Ttop bags in the back. Can anyone explain to me how/where to put the Ttops once I've put them in the bags?

I'm tired of having to take the ttops off and putting them in the back seat.

 

I don't know about your car, but for my '91 RS, the bags buckle in the back with straps that go from by the rear seat backs, attach to the bag, and to loops at the back of the car.

 

Be very careful slipping your t-tops into the back seat - pretty good way for them to crack when you go over a bump. They slip into the bag. The bag has two clips at the top of it which hook onto two metal 'hooks' which should be mounted in your rear hatch. If they are not there, you should be able to find some at a junkyard or from someone else. This secures the top of the bag into the hatch. Then, take the two straps that are long and attach those clips to the two hooks which should be sticking out of the plastic timn near the hatch motor/light. Hook 'em in and tighten the straps.

So its ok to strap them in and they lay on that edge? Can u post a pic with them in bags and strapped?

 

I stored my t tops as they were supposed to be, but I started getting tearing where the straps connect to the bag. Now I just bag em and gently place them in the storage well. The hatch cover keeps them out of sight. They haven't broke from bumps either. Maybe this is not the best advice, but that's what I do.

Sometimes if the weather is fair an dry, I leave them home.

 

IIRC, they're supposed to be secured so that they don't fly forward during an accident.

Absolutely. I am not interested in loosing my head either, only the bags and straps do not seem strong enough to hold them from breaking loose, and flying forward.

 

I'm assuming they had to pass some kind of test when they put the car on the market. Who knows, the seat belts were recalled a while back so you never know.

 

The storage bag is a flimsy setup. But if you look at it closely, even if the straps are starting to rip off of the bag a bit, the glass tops are still secure from flying forward in an accident.

 

In the cargo area they seem to be fairly well contained, but I suppose it could turn into a horror movie. I just can't deal with ripping bags. They are expensive and hard to find.

 

eh...i set mine in the open space in the trunk...where the shelf ends...i just wrap towels around them...they still sit high enough that they would hit the deck lid before they flew forward

 

If you look at the sticker on the inside of the bag, it says to put both tops in the bag, glass side in and both handles facing down and to the rear.
Someone needs to scan that sticker and put it in the FAQ section
